This may be a bug in windows.
did u try booting into safe mode to change the account type? (whilst boting
press either F8 or F12 continuously to get to a boot options screen, select
safe mode and press return and then carry on to chang as normal)
Try changing acount type from another administrative account(if possible)
or if youre running XP pro> do start>run>lusrmgr.msc go to users tree select
your user and set it to be in the group 'administrators' under the member of
tab.
LUSRMGR IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN XP PRO and you may need some kind of
administrative account to use it (not sure about that)
