I got this computer from some IT guy that "Custom Build" it just for me and
now he doesn't answer the phone and I have no administrative rights to add or
remove any software. Whats the point of having this computer if I can't even
make small changes to the system. I tryed net user admin * and get "system
error 5" not sure what else to do.... HELP

The 'Administrator' account (the account name is: Administrator) in Windows.
The default password for this normally hidden account is normally blank
(none/no password).

For XP Home users:
Boot the computer into Safe Mode
Do this by pressing the F8 key (several times) after the Power On Self Test
is finished, until the Start menu appears.
This will get you to the correct menu window.
Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally hidden Administrator account
and any other accounts.
(Note: Accounts are displayed alphabetically).
Use the Up/down arrow keys to highlight the 'Administrator' account;
Remember as mentioned above: The default password is a blank (no password
required).

Also See: Forgotten your Windows XP Home password
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894902/en-us
and: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894901/

For XP Pro users:
You do not need to go into Safe Mode.
At the Welcome Screen, do/press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys twice to display the
Windows logon box.
Type in "Administrator" (without the quotes) and 'if' you assigned a
password when you set up Windows, then enter it. (Note: by default the
password is blank, no password need be entered)

Once your in, then:
Click Start/Run/and type in: Control Userpasswords2 and then press OK
Next click the 'Users' tab (if it's not already selected).
Now click on the user's account name.that you want to change/reset the
password for, and
Click the 'Reset Password' button located at the bottom right.
Enter the new password into the 'New password' box,
Enter the same password again in the 'Confirm new password' box.
Next click the 'OK' button.
Finally restart your PC, and logon using the account name and password you
entered.

Resetting a Forgotten Password Tutorial

NOTES

The built-in Administrator account is found on the Welcome
screen only if there are no other accounts available, other
than Guest, or when the computer is booted into Safe Mode.

To get Admin account on the "Welcome Screen" make sure that
there are no accounts logged in.

The built-in Administrator account can create and change
passwords for all users, but cannot restore a forgotten one.

When a password is changed, that account will lose all
encrypted files, personal certificates and stored Internet
Explorer passwords or network resources.

Press "CTRL-ALT-DEL" twice to get the classic Windows logon
box. Type: Administrator. If this account has a password,
enter it. Otherwise, leave the it blank.

Recovering a password is much more difficult. Using a
cracking program can take weeks!

RESET A PASSWORD USING THE ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT

1. Boot into Safe Mode.
2. Log on using the built-in Administrator account.
3. Open: Control Panel-->User Accounts.
4. On the Users tab, select a user name, the password to
change and click Reset Password.

RESET A PASSWORD AT THE LOGON SCREEN WITH THE COMMAND PROMPT

At the logon screen, press Shift+F10 to open a Command Prompt
with adminisrative priviledges and type:

net user {username} {password}

{username} = The Account's User Name
{password} = This will be the new password

RESET A PASSWORD USING MICROSOFT'S ERD COMMANDER

1. Download a 30 day trial from here:
Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 5.0 $65 64 MB
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
2. Install it, run it and burn the image to a CD.
3. Boot the CD and run the Locksmith Wizard, found under
'Start-->System Tools'.
4. The Locksmith Wizard is very easy to use, just select an
account and input a new password. Too easy!

All fine suggestions if the OP needed to access a user account and
didn't have the password, but that is not the case according to the
original post.

It is the Administrator password that is unknown.

mmoreno needs to know how to get into the Administrator account
without knowing the Administrator password.

mmoreno says the Administrator password is not an empty password,
right mmoreno - you tried that (hitting Enter at the prompt for
Administrator password)?

Recovering a lost Administrator password requires a different approach.
