Searched all over, but can't find anything on this:

I'm running XP-SP3 on a Dell 9400 laptop and using a Logitech G11
keyboard. The keyboard has a nice knob that controls the Windows
volume, but the steps are too big, especially at the low end. It's
really hard to get a quiet volume without going to zero sound. I've
looked all over but can't find any settings or any website that talks
about this.

I take it you have the Logitec drivers installed ? Maybe there is a function
in their software, or you can create a macro ? Otherwise no.
