I go to Display Properties > Advanced and, under Item I see, Icon Spacing
(Horizontal) and Icon Spacing (Vertical) and I change the number in the Size
box. But it doesn't matter if I set this number to 1 or 150, or anywhere in
between, the icons still snap to the same size grid on my desktop, either
too close or too far apart for my liking. So that's the waste the customers
time with a useless activity method. What's the real secret method for
adjusting the space between icons on the desktop?

Hi randwill

What I do is, after applying the new setting, right-click on the desktop
and uncheck Arrange Icons By. . . > Align to Grid. Then repeat and this
time check Align to Grid again. You should see your icons snap to their
new positions.

THANKS. That works. As usual, there is the apparent way and the secret MS
way of doing something simple.

You're very welcome :-) I suppose there is a sort of logic to it --
"align to grid" is supposed to stop your icons from moving and that's
what it does, even when you want them to!
