Windows 2003 Server
Windows XP Pro Workstation
Token Ring Cabling
IBM Token Ring NIC
Due to poor network cabling or defective MAUs, our network speed at
one site is poor and causing errors when opening server-based
databases/applications from the workstations. One workstation was put
on Ethernet and all the problems went away, so we know that it's a
network hardware problem. I'd like to try and throttle down the
network speed from 16mpbs to 4mbps to see if this can help reduce the
error. However, the network is installed on an oil tanker where we do
not have network administrators. I need to find a way to modify the
'Network Data Rate' for a NIC via the Registry (or even DOS if
possible). I know how to do this via the NIC's properties in Windows,
but our onboard users don't have access to this. Any suggestions? If
this doesn't work, I'm going to have to recable the ship sooner than
expected. Thanks for any advice you can offer
