I'm using an ASP Exchange server for Outlook 2007. When I start a new e-mail
and click on the To: button to bring up my Contacts address book, some of the
names are searchable only by first name and some by last name. However, if I
open them with Contacts, all show the correct "last, first" format under the
"File as:" field.

What have I done wrong?

Might want to start by telling us what sort order you set for the Outlook
Address Book.

Sorry...I guess I left that out. In my Contact Options, the Default "Full
Name" order is First(Middle)Last and theDefault "File As" order is
Last,First. A while back I remember changing one of these to try and fix the
problem, but it still remains. That is, some of the contacts are searchable
by last mane ansd some by first name.

That's not what I asked. I asked what sort order you set for the Outlook
Address Book. If you don't know, look here:

Russ...
The only address book is my contacts in my mail box and the "Show names by"
radio button selected is "First Last". I recall trying to fix this by
changing it to last name, first name, but it didn't change every contact, so
I changed it back.

No wonder. There is no such option. Care to try again with an accurate
description of what you did? The only other option you could have chosen is
"File As..," which would only work if every single one of your Contacts had
their "File As..." fields configured to "Last, First."
