Hello,
I added a new domain to my existing host using addon domain feature.
The only problem is that ... instead of creating a new folder, separate
from my first domain, it puts it inside and everything that I will
have on the second domain, will also be available on the first one ...
in a sub folder. Is this a normal thing ?

Thank you.

Yes this is normal. You need to talk to your host on how best to handle separate content for each
domain.

Here's how it works. As 'they' describe it. Won't this jeopardize my
relationship with the search engines? Having the same content on both
domains?

First of all, what is an addon domain? An addon domain is a domain that
is pointed to a subdomain. Before the addon domain will work, you must
have it registered with a registrar and set the DNS settings to point
to our servers. How does it work? With the Addon domain feature in
Cpanel you can create a separate domain next to your main domain on
your account. The HTML contents of a subdomain goes into a subfolder of
the /public_html/ folder in your account.

Every addon domain also creates a subdomain. An Addon is basically a
subdomain that can also be accessed by the full domain. So for the
visitor it is transparent, because they only see the full domain in the
URL bar.

So if you would add a domain named kat.com and your main domain is
dog.com, Cpanel creates a subdomain called kat.dog.com. The contents
which goes in the /public_html/kat/ directory will be visible via your
browser under: kat.dog.com AND kat.com

Doesn't work that way for every web host and a subdomain is not the same as a domain.

You should be able to access dog.com via www.dog.com and cat.com via www.cat.com, not as cat.dog.com
which would have a impact on how your site is found and you content is referenced in the search
engines.

When you type in your domain in the browser and the site loads, what URL are you seeing as you move
between pages within the site?

well, if I use the new domain, then when I browse I see the new domain.

before I set up the redirects the links on
www.first.com/second/index.html were pointing to
www.second.com/link1.html and so on.
