Additional files & folders for disk based web

I like to publish to a local disk based web (a staging
area of sorts) and then FTP a proof read site to an
online server.... rather than use the built in Frontpage
FTP tools to go direct to the live server.

In the process, I find that Frontpage creates a bunch of
folder and sub folder names (for example _VTI folder) and
file names that are not otherwise created or transfered
if I publish direct from Frontpage to the live server.
It seems to make sense, therefore, that these are not
necessary files on the live server in order for the web
to be viewable.

I have two questions:

1) What is the purpose of these extra files and folders?
2) Is there a way that I can force Frontpage not to
create these folders and files when publishing to the
local disk based site?

Easiest way to remove them from your 3rd party FTP folder is in Windows Explorer Find and Delete all _vt* (files and folders -
including hidden system known file types)
You can also delete all _overlay and _borders folders (if any)

| These the FP extensions fields/folder and they are never uploaded to a
| remote server even when using FP to publish.

|
| No, but since you are uploading via a 3rd Party FTP application, you can
| delete them from your staging area, however do not delete them from local FP
| web.
