I am trying to set up an additional e-mail account in Outlook 2002. Every
time I "test account settings" I get an error "Send test e-mailmessage:
Unable to send test Message. Please verify the E-mail Address field." I
have verified the field several times and it is correct. Where else can I
look?

What kind of email account are you configuring?
Finish the configuration and send an email, what happens then? Do you get an
error in the Send/Receive dialog or an NDR?

A POP account.
When I send a message I get as a system adminstrator response with the error
"554 authentication failed, must login"

In that case configure your SMTP server settings to use authentication or
use the SMTP server local to your ISP.

For which method?
Is the POP3 account provided by the ISP that also connects you to the
Internet?
If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.

I tried both methods.
Yes, the POP3 account is provided by the ISP that connects me to the Internet.
How do I find out if I have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook and
disable it? Will it be permanently disabled?
