adding an XP machine to a windows 4.0 domain via VPN

I am trying to add an XP machine to a windows 4.0 domain
via VPN (cisco 3030) over dialup.

I have accomplished this with windows 2k professional
machine but having tough time with this XP. I am getting a
domain controller for the domain jm could not be contacted
ensure that the domain name is typed correctly.

Any body has ever attempted this? If so, I'd like to know
how to..
