Adding third party software to autoplay

There have been several requests asking to add third party software to play
or record DVDs using the autoplay dropdown list, but none seem to answer the
questioner other than to say go into the list and choose the software.
Following that instruction all have come back to say that does not work.
Usually the next answer is "you are too dumb to be using a computer".
However, that does not actually answer the question if you go to 'Hardware
and sound' and choose 'autoplay' the dropdown list has no way to add the
third party software.
Someone mentioned that you need to go into the software itself to select an
autoplay option - but again if I use DVD Fab Gold as a burning program there
is no option showing.
How does one add any of these programs to the Vista autoplay choice?
Thanks for any help.
