| There seemed to be a word missing from this reply, i.e.
| ... scan it into a xxx file format ...
| where xxx would most likely be JPEG (.jpg)
I stated "file format" because it could be MS Word, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, etc... I didn't want
to be so specific as to limit the file type.
Personally, I would scan it and create a PDF with PDFCreator.
Stephanie was very vague when she stated "I am filling out some forms using my
computer...". It would have been nice if she stated in what format those forms are. If
it is a form in a MS Word document you can somtimes insert a WMF of a scanned signature.
What I tell people to do is to use a good pen and sign their name on a paper several
times. Then scan the page. Then crop the *best* signature and save that in a Windows
Meta File (WMF). Then they can "insert" the WMF (visual digital) signature into various
documents.
Now we are in the 21st century one can digitally sign a form with a Smart Card. That is
if you have a Smart Card and the appropriate middleware. I often create Adobe PDF forms
using Life Cycle Designer where one can digitally sign the form using the digital
certificate on their Smart Card. Of course I give give rights to Adobe Reader so one can
fill the form and save the data with the form.
I think that covers the various type of signatures...
Digital signatures using PKI certificates.
Graphical file, visual, digital signatures inserted into documents
Hand signed documents scanned into a file format.
In my line of work I do all of the above.
