Adding RAID controller to existing 2000 server

We have an older PDC running 2000 server. Since being a PDC is its
only job we aren't ready to retire it yet. We have separate NAS
storage with RAID built in. However the PDC lacks RAID and I worry
about hard drive failure. I want to add a RAID controller to it so I
can add a second hard drive to run under RAID 1. If I add this
controller and the second hard drive will I simply be able to connect
the existing hard drive and boot the system back up without having to
do anything to the actual existing Windows installation. I suspect I
will have to configure the controller to start the RAID 1 mirror but I
don't want have to mess with the existing windows install. What are
the steps to add a RAID controller to an existing system?

Thanks in advance,
Adam
