Adding Product Code

I had to install XP over the current of XP I had due to
virus I had gotten & had to delete...the deleted files
were exe files so I fixed it by re-installing XP over
what was already here in hopes to just add the files that
were lost/deleted due to getting rid of the virus'. The
problem I have now is I can not download any Updates...I
hadn't put in the Product Key (Code or whatever it is
called) when I did this...I now realize I need to add it
again but don't know how to do that. Any suggestions or
help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you in advance.
