I want to show samples of my print work on my site. Is
there a way to add pdf files or gifs or jpgs of some biz
card/brochure files on the site? Can I also add pictures
of other sites I have created?
Thanks

Susan,

You can add any content you would like to your site.

For all files Open your FrontPage web, go to File > Import > Locate your files > OK

You can now either link to them or drag and drop them into any page.
NOTE: For PDF, your best option is to link to the file.

If you want to add pdfs you should convert them to gifs or jpgs first otherwise they'll want to open in Adobe Acrobat.

If you have the samples of work in jpg already just Import them into FP Image folder then insert them into your design from there. As far as pictures of other sites...why not just put links to them...nothing like the real thing to look at!

Yes, I already have links to other site. I saw another
designer's site and he had small shots of home pages he'd
designed available without having to link to the actual
site. I haven't been able to figure out how that was done.
Thanks

oh..you use a Screen shot...you can use Print Screen on your keyboard (its free but usually a chore finding where the .bmp went to) or you can use a Screen Shot thingie like HoverSnap (freeware) and that will also snap the screen and at the same time scale it down for ya.

You can find it at http://www.hoverdesk.net

You display the site in IE, press Ctrl+PrSc to copy a
screen shot to the clipboard, and then paste the screen
shot into your favorite picture editor.

From there, you can resize and save the screen shot, then
add it to your Web site, then add it to your page.

yes, you just import the pdf file and link to it from another page. THe user
needs pdf (adobe) reader to view the PDF file, make a link to www.adobe.com as
well (or the actual full link to the downloads page on adobe so people don't have
to go fishing around for it).

With the other sites you've created you can make 'screenshots' by pressing
PrintScreen and pasting the image into your image editor, then crop it etc to
whatever you like. Also, you could just add links to those other sites on a
'sample of work' kind of page.

Is that what you mean? Or do you mean simply the artwork/images you've done for
those other sites, to display those images on your site.

Adding pictures is simple, just import the files then insert them where you need
them. Publish the site.

pressing printscreen copies the current active window to the windows clipboard,
so you just cut-and-paste into your image editor. (by clipboard I mean the
temporary memory area windows uses for the cut and paste functions in many/all
applications for windows - just to verify).

ur right...I forgot that. I like the little program though because I can scale it immediately, much faster.

Susan, I'm not an expert, but your question got me thinking about my use of pdf files. I am a teacher and convert my weekly print calendars to pdf files so that my students' parents can access extra copies easily. Some of the posts here made my try copy and pasting the pdf file onto a page. By now, I am sure you have tried that too and realized that the formatting all disappears.

Two things to consider:

(1) I tired dragging the pdf files right into navigation view. It worked. I just need to add a navigation bar to the parent page and retitle the pages in the navigation view.

(2) If you want a gallery of your work, and it sounds like that is what you are looking for, convert the pdf pages to jpegs (I couldn't convert to gifs), import them all into a directory, and then use the built in FrontPage gallery maker (Insert | Web Component | Photo Gallery). You can select the images you want (and add to or delete from later). You will have a choice of gallery styles. Some lend themselves nicely to descriptive text. I used one to show the covers of books written by a speaker at an upcoming teachers' convention. Depending on your needs, you could make different galleries on different pages to showcase different kinds of work.

It sounds like fun. Good luck.
