Did you initialize the disk?

Did you partition and format the disk?

james,

A setup disc should have come with the HDD. Just put in in the CDROM drive.
It should auto play and then just follow the on screen prompts.

All retail hard disks come with detailed instructions, typically on a CD. You should follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. These can also be found on the manufacturer's web site, where you will find additional assistance.

OEM hard drives are not supplied with installation media, screws, 5.25
mounts.. nada..

James

Right click on 'My Computer'.. click on 'Manage'.. ok, there is now an open
window called 'Computer Management', and you need to select 'Storage - Disk
Management'.. from here, you can partition, format, and assign a letter to
the new drive..

James:
As "M and D" as well as others have informed you, before you can use a
functioning HD in your system, it's necessary to partition & format the
drive. In your case you'll do this through the Disk Management utility in
your XP operating system. You can use XP's "Help and Support" to obtain
detailed information on how to use the DM utility. Just enter "disk
management" in the H&S Search box. You can also get step-by-step
instructions for using that utility by doing a simple Google search.

There is *no* need to use any third-party utility such as the one provided
by the manufacturer of your hard drive to partition & format your new drive.
Use the Disk Management utility that's integrated in the XP operating system
as I have recommended. It's a relatively simple & straightforward procedure.
And it's effective.
