Adding "Open with"

XP Pro, SP3, updated yesterday.

Is it possible to add the "Open With" or "Edit" options to pop up menus that
don't have them?

I have a bunch of reports differentiated by odd extensions and to check
their contents I have to wade through the whole DA "Shall I go look up
something on the internet" default routine. If "Open with" or "Edit" were
available it would speed things up a lot.

For that matter, is it possible to change the default from "Shall I go look
up something on the internet" to "Look up locally?"

Thanks

The program X-Setup will allow you to add "Open With" to all of the places
it is not: http://www.x-setup.net/

It will also allow many other nice things to be added/changed

There are apps and reg tweaks to do this, but I'd be tempted just to add the
desired program to your "Send To" group (which is, by default, at
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\SendTo). Eg, I've added "Edit as text"
as a shortcut to Notepad in my Send To and use it quite often.

For anybody interested in this subject I gotta say, this is the simplest and
most direct one.

Thanks

For items that don't have 'Open With ...", click on the icon once and then
while holding the left hand SHIFT key, right click on the icon. The menu
that pops up should have "Open With ..." at the bottom of the top block.
Some file extensions are disabled from this functionality (e.g. .html
files).
