One possibility is that you are entering the domain name wrong. In active
directory, the domain appears in two forms, for example: domain.whatever.org
and DOMAIN. If when you start to type the domain name in the box all the
letters come out in small letters, you have to use the first form. If the
letters come out CAPS, even though the caps lock is not on, you have to use
the second form. Make sure you can ping the domain controller first. Also,
if you have the domain admin name and password, use that.
