I think I have seen that it is not possible to add a new status to the
Outlook task list? If not, can Microsoft take a suggetion of adding
"Cancelled". I hate clearing tasks as "completed" when they have actually
been cancelled.

No, you can't add a new status. I deleted my cancelled task... or you could
use deferred instead of completed.
