Hi,

I hav the following issue:
We have a client with a 2000 AD and a windows 2000 domain controller.
this client purchased two new servers with a 2003 server license. So we have
to install
the new servers in the present domain and let them take over as domain
controllers of the domain.
How should we get started?
i had the folowing (premature) plan: first installing sp4 on the existing
domain controller (windows 2000 server), then doing an adprep /forestprep,
then an adprep /domainprep, when this is done i would install one of the new
servers in the domain en let him be a backup domain controller of the
domain. (if this is allready possible??) Then i would demote (dcpromo) the
old win2000 Ad server and hope that the 2003 server takes over. (another
problem: the new domain controller 2003 should have the same name as the old
one because of a database application that runs on it, if possible)
the next step would be to install the second server as backup domain
controller of the first 2003 server.

Who can help me with this? a huge responsibility is resting on me....
help...

You're almost there....
------------------------
1. Make sure that we have got Service Pack 4 or above on Server 2000 for
Windows.
2. Run ADPREP /forestprop and /domainprep to prepare it for 2003 server.
3. Do DCPROMO on the new server/Domain Controller.
4. Make it the Primary Domain Controller.
5. METABASE Clean on 2003 server using NTDSUTIL.

Best of luck!
