Adding members to distribution groups outside of the GAL

This question may be more complicated than this group is intended for but I'm
at a loss so I'll take a shot and see what happens.

I'm trying to add a non GAL member to a DL in AD. Problem is, I don't know
how to add a non GAL member to a distribution group in AD. Can I somehow
create a contact in Outlook and then pull it into AD? Seems odd that I can't
just add an e-mail address to a DL regardless if that member resides on the
GAL or not.

You might have better luck asking in an Exchange group.
