The usual practice to ensure a correct USB driver install is to install
the driver and software *before* connecting the device the first time,
barring *specific* vendor instructions to do otherwise. To correct a
failed scanner installation, connect the scanner then from scanners and
cameras remove the scanner if it appears there, then from add/remove
programs remove the software and the TWAIN applications. Shut down and
disconnect the scanner.
After disconnecting the scanner, reboot,do not connect the scanner, and
install the software and and driver. If the installation completed
successfully, connect the scanner for the first time. It should be
detected and installed.
