The placeholder should be there by default. When you go to View - Master -
Slide master - the placeholder for the numbering should be in the right hand
corner. If it has been removed, you can put it back by clicking on the
Master Layout button in the master toolbar (the one but last from the
right). Just put a check next to Slide number and hit OK.
If you want to apply the numbering, go to View - Header and footer - put a
check next to Slide number - click the apply to all button and you are in
business.
