POP3 only knows of a "mailbox". There are no folders. There isn't
even an "Inbox" named folder. There are no folders at all under POP3.
It is just ONE mailbox. Your POP3 client retrieves all mails from
your mailbox. That your provider calls their mailbox as the Inbox is
only because they also include their own server-side folders when
using their webmail interface. Those other folders are NOT part of
the mailbox. They are logically separate holding areas up on the
server. Your POP3 client will only retrieve mail items from your
mailbox.
There is no FOLDER command that the POP3 client can send to the mail
server to select a different folder up on the mail server. For a list
of POP3 commands, see
ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc1939.txt.
Once your e-mail client yanks the item from your server's mailbox, you
can move it around wherever you want inside your e-mail client by
using rules.
