I have been using IE 6 for some time, but just upgraded to Windows XP. In
the Outlook Express address book I formerly had the option to create New
Folders, but now I just get options for New Contacts and New Groups. How can
I create New Folders in the Address Book?

Thanks.

Is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed?

Do you have this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook and is its value set
to 1 (one)?

If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero) and all should be well. (If that DWORD is not
present, don't create it, and don't alter any other DWORD values.)

Note that any changes (additions, deletions, edits) made while sharing was
enabled will not be available (displayed) in Address Book when sharing is
disabled.

Wow! That took care of the problem. I can now create new contacts, groups,
and FOLDERS in the address book!

Thanks so much for your help.

Unfortunately, I discovered that an frustrating side effect of this action
was that all of my address book entries disappeared -- no more email
addresses there! I was able to replace many of them with a backed up copy of
the .wab file...

I notice that they are still intact in Outlook. Any idea how to get them
imported back into Outlook Express?

Export them from OL as a CSV file. Import them into Address Book via
File>Import>Other address book.

Thanks, again! Your answer not only solved this problem, but it also help me
to restore my address book. I had saved it before I formatted my hard drive,
but in error saved it as a .csv file, and not as a .wab. I had an older
version of a .wab file that I had imported into Outlook Express, but I was
very pleased to learn that I could import the newer .csv address book
listing!!

I really appreciate your assistance.
