Adding deployed WebReferences to projects results in http404 error

Hi All

I have created webservices deployed them to the webserver, but
when i try reference (when actually adding the webreference to the app)
these from other apps / webservices (in dev env)
i get
There was an error downloading 'http://devweb/uct_auth/ws_LDAP/service1.asmx'.

The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found--

??? References the same service1.asmx file happily enough on my devmachine,
but not the one on the dev machine.
