I go to File - Properties - General. The box for adding background sound on
my Home page and other pages is grey'd out. what am I doing wrong.

Tools > Page options > Authoring tab.
Set the dropdowns to Custom and the Schema to IE 5
Click OK

When I goto>Tools>Page options>Alll I got is General. Auto Thumbnail Default
Font HTML Source Color Coding and Compatinility. Where's the >Authoring
tab??

If you are not using FP2003, then use
Tools->Page Options, and the Compatiblity tag
