I have a 9gig harddrive with windows xp on it. The computer is a pIII 450.
The bios is award 1998 ver. I want to add another harddrive (I prefer the
computer see both as one drive.) My question is if I setup the second drive
as a slave will Windows XP automactically format and config it?

No.

You will have to partition and format the drive.
There are other considerations, namely the size of hard disk your BIOS will
support. You need to do some homework before you go out and purchase another
hard drive. There are MANY barriers on the hard disk road and you need to
know just how far you can go down that road before you reach an impassable
barrier in terms of hard disk size.
