Can a 2nd CPU be added to a Win2000 server after the OS
has been installed? is it automatically recognized or?

>Yes. It will be recognised and made available, although I

personally would do a complete re-install.

wrong

you need to update the machine type from the device manager (under
computer).

Be sure to give it files from an i386 directory that matches the servicepack
version that your server has installed.

Ditto.
You have to use Device Manager, right-click your single
processor ACPI, go to Driver and Update driver, and choose
one of the Multi-Proc modes compatible with your PC.
Copy the correct SP-level of i386 to C:\.
When you reboot, be ready for a BSOD.
If it does, then do "Last known good". It will probably
boot good after that and still implement your dual-proc.

Good luck.

I just love recompling my kernel to include bootable support for new array
controllers and additonal processors !!!

NOT

THe process would be basically the same on linux. You need to impliment the
SMP kernel, with all its options and junk, before you will have access to
the 2nd proc.

Ignore the idiot that posted the message you (in your troll like ways)
responded to.
