I added memory now the computer runs slow?????

We bought two computers for work. When we went to install the new custom
software we were told to add another 1 gig memory. So now the computer has 2
gigs of ram but..... The computer is running slower!

is there some self ajusting that WIN XP Pro goes thru when you add ran????
