Several years ago, the taskbar got changed from the bottom to the side.
Some one helped me on this, but this time it is different. The bottom
taskbar is usually about 1/4 inch high and can be dragged down or expanded
up. What I have now is a taskbar about 1/2 inch high with the regular icons
on the top and below them is My Documents, My Computer, Network places, and
Recycle Bin.

Can some one tell me how to get rid of the bottom row? Thanks

Bert

Just after I sent the last message, I deleted a couple of the items on the
bottom row, but when I did a couple more icons showed up in their place. The
icons are icons for starting programs that I have in the desktop. Wierd!!!

Seems you could click your start menu, right click, properties, and
toolbars and deselect addresses, links or desktop, sounds like you
could start with desktop.

I'm not using xp so I'm not sure.

Resize it. Move it. Re-organize it.
Are those the things you are speaking of?

Here is a link to one of many wordy articles that shows how to
manipulate the taskbar, but it seems to cover most things.

It may take a little practice. If you still have trouble, let us know.

When you delete from the "Desktop" toolbar, it deletes from the Desktop
too. Press Ctrl/Z to undo the delete, or just go to the Recycle Bin and
Restore the item/s. Your other questions have been answered by others.

1. Right-click on a blank area of the tasbar and Unlock the taskbar.

2. Grab the || in front of the Desktop toolbar and drag it up & to the right
of the taskbar & left of Notification area; or

3. Right-click on a blank area of the tasbar and uncheck Toolbars | Desktop.

4. Lock the taskbar.

The task bar is resizable, like a window. Put the cursor on the edge
and wiggle it slightly to make it turn into a double-headed arrow.
Then click and drag it to the size you want.

If it won't resize, it may be locked. In that case, right click on it
and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar," Then try again.

Also note that if you have toolbars on the task bar on multiple lines,
you won't be able to reduce the task bar size to fewer than that
number of lines. Put all the toolbars on one line first.

If you're still having trouble, read the following, quoted from MVP
Malke: "What happens is that the end "margin" of the QuickLaunch
toolbar has gotten so far over to the right that it is now down below.
Unlock the Taskbar and then "grab" the dotted line on the bottom bar
(it will be a solid line if you are using the classic style) and drag
it up to immediately to the right of the QuickLaunch icons. Now you've
successfully made the QuickLaunch toolbar shorter and can "grab" the
top bar of the Taskbar and "push" it down to the regular one-tier
height."

it's your Desktop toolbar. Rightclick on an empty space on the Taskbar click
Lock the Taskbar to uncheck it. Then rightclick on the Taskbar > Tololbars >
Desktop, this will remove the Desktop toolbar. Grab the top edge of the
Taskbar and drag it down. Lock the Taskbar. If you want the Toolbar back,
Right on Taskbar > Toolbar > Desktop. You deleted some shortcuts from the
Desktop, restore them from Recycle Bin.

WOW, What a deal. Thanks to all of you, I have the taskbar down to where
it is supposed to be. I do not know what I did to get in this mess. I was
almost ready to give up before it finally all came together. Thanks to
ALL.
