Hello, can anyone tell me how to add a trendline to a
pivot chart? No matter what I try I cannot add a
trendline. I've tried clicking on a data series, right
click then select add trend line but this option is
greyed out I have also tried using the chart menu. This
is realy getting on my nerves well only because I don't
know how to do it but I can do it when the chart is not
attached to a pivot table...Why?

Adrian -

Pivot charts do not have all the flexibility of a regular chart. While
it's inconvenient, it's also necessary to ensure the integrity of the
links to the pivot data.

Among the lack of flexibility are the missing trendlines, missing chart
types, the inability to make custom combination charts, the inability to
include data from outside the pivot table, or to exclude data in it. I
only use pivot charts when the data is very simple and I do not need any
special effects in the chart.

Hi,

You can add a trend line to Pivot Chart but alot depends on the dat
and how the pivot chart is setup. This is a basic example.

Total Sales(USA) Sales(Europe)
Jan 1000 500 500
Feb 2000 250 1750
Mar 3000 1800 2200

The above is suppose represent the pivot table based on individua
order lines. The pivot chart would be stack with Jan,feb, mar on the
axis.

Assuming that you want a trendline of total > On your worksheet. Cop
the column which has the order line totals. So effectively so you hav
two columns the same. Rename the coloumn to trend.

Create a new pivot table. Create the chart. Select the data serie
trend. Right click, select chart type, select line. Trend should now b
represented as a line rather than part of the stack bar chart. No
click on the line, add trendline.

This is not a perfect solution but it may help
