How to add/remove/re-position columns in the "link to record" window?

Dear all,

is there a known way to alter the columns of the window that pops up
when you hit "link to record"?
I would like to add and remove columns as wel as put "project type"
in the first column and sort on it.

Is this possible? Anyone done it?
