add/remove programs - windows setup hangs

Hi,

when i run control panel -> add/remove programs -> add/remove windows
components button

my system ( win2003 std ) just sits there fora couple of HOURS before
bringing up the windows components

any ideas?
Are there windows 2003 newgroups as well?
