When I run Add/Remove programs, it takes forever to populate. It just says
"PLEASE WAIT WHILE THE LIST IS BEING POPULATED...."
When I run REVO uninstaller it works fine. Ideas?

It's not about patience. It NEVER populates.

I do apologise, it's just people do use the term "forever" to mean so many things.

One of them being "quite a long time".

Do you ever, by chance, see any bold vertical lines in the window where the
program names should be? If so you should also see a scroll on the right
side of the window. Scroll down and you probably will see your programs.
There is a bug in Windows XP settings that cause the loooong gap with the
black lines. Otherwise, I haven't a clue.

Are you running WinXP, WinXP SP1, WinXP SP2 or WinXP SP3?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(nother) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this
machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

How to fix "Add or Remove Programs".

Register these DLL's then create and merge a registry file:

1. Close all programs.

2. Open the Run box and enter, one at a time:

regsvr32.exe Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32.exe Browseui.dll
regsvr32.exe jscript.dll
regsvr32.exe mshtml.dll
regsvr32.exe msxml.dll
regsvr32.exe Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32.exe scrrun.dll
regsvr32.exe Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32.exe Shell32.dll
regsvr32.exe URLMON.dll
regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll

3. Copy below and paste into Notepad.

4. Save-as ARPFix.reg (or any name + .reg)

5. Double-click or right-click and merge into the registry.

6. Restart your computer.


This program will fix the "Add or Remove Programs" whitespace
problem.

"The gap is caused by a badly formatted "DisplayIcon" entry in
the uninstall area of the registry or a bad icon file."
