When I open the control panel, I see every other icon bu the Add/Remove
prgrams shows up as an unrecognized icon. When I "try" to click it, it
doesn't launch nor oes ot give me a list of programs that may open it.
Question is..is there another way to access the add/remove feature? Is it
possible that someone remotely diabled this function so that I CAN'T remove a
particular program?

Hi

If you run

appwiz.cpl

from Start/Run, does the Add/Remove Programs screen appear?

Hi

Search for the appwiz.cpl file in Windows Explorer. You may find a copy of
it in the windows\system32\dllcache folder. If so, copy/paste it into the
windows\system32 folder. Failing that you may have to extract a fresh copy
from the XP CD.

thanks folks! i found another way to, at least, access my programs and delete
anything that looks unfamiliar. still having issues with some apps that
simply won't uninstall but i'm pretty resigned to the fact that i'll probably
need to do a fresh windows install. ah. well. by the way, that path is
start>run>regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>microsoft>windows>current
version>unistall.......and then the prgrams are listed alphbetically after
the 32 character stings. don;t know if it works.
i'll try your suggestions and hopefully they will work. i'll check back here
in a few days.

Louie, you don't say exactly what you're doing with the sub-keys under
Uninstall. . . if you just delete them, this will only remove them from
the Add/Remove Programs listing; it won't remove the programs from your
computer.

What you need to do is click on the key for each program you want to
remove and look in the right pane for its UninstallString path. If you
right-click on UninstallString and choose Modify, you can copy the data
from the dialog box with Ctrl-C, then cancel the box. Paste the entry
into Start > Run and that should start the uninstaller for the program.

perfect! thanks nightowl... i WAS simply deleting the entry and this would
explain why i still have the application wondering around my computer. ok...i
will do exactly as you suggested. thanks again all!!! p.s. if, for some
reason, a program/app doesn't un install, does modifying the binary do
anything as far as ensuring that the app doesn't launch?
