Add Remove Programs, Network Connections, NTBackup and IE6 problems

I have a customer running SBS2000 with SP4. Just recently, I
discovered that the backup was not running. When I try to open
NTBackup, nothing happens other than a NTBACKUP.EXE appearing in the
task manager.

Trying to find the problem, I went to Internet Explorer 6 but it
freezes when it tries to render a web page.

Looking further, Add Remove Programs and Network connections won't
open either. When I launch Add Remove Programs, there is a MSHTA.EXE
appearing in the task manager.

I was able to install Firefox and I can browse the Internet fine with
it.

I have registered a bunch of DLLs pertaining to the add remove
programs with no help.

I tried to reinstall Internet Explorer 6. I did not try a reinstall of
SP4 or SFC /SCANNOW yet.

Anyone has an idea/answer?

Thanks,
Marc

I can't help with the underlying issue per se, but search for a program
called "Add Remove Master" to get possible Add/Remove Programs
functionality back.

Usually repairing or reinstalling IE should fix the problem so I'm not
sure that this can help but here it is anyway:

Add/Remove Programs dialog box does not appear or is corrupted

I don't have a lot to go on here, but look at Knowledge Base article 307309
The Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service Hangs While It Is
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=307309). Check the start value for the
Logical Disk Manager Administrative service and make sure it is set to
Manual rather than Automatic.

Oh, I forgot to also mention, Exchange won't start, but boot to Directory
Service Restore Mode and test Ntbackup and Add/Remove Programs to see if
they will open properly.
