I want to uninstall a program via Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs but
when I try this I get "Please wait while the list is populated", the hard
disk starts spinning and goes on non-stop but nothing appears in the list.
I have given up after about 15 minutes each time I try it.

Is there a way of putting this right?

Its not possible to uninstall this program from the Program folder - the program did not have an uninstaller with it.

There are many programs installed on my machine so they should all appear on the Add or Remove programs list.

Look on the bright side. At least we never got married

Many non Microsoft Programs do not appear in the
Add/Remove programs list when installed.What program
have you recently installed and seen or not seen in the list before
you had this problem. If you can find the program why not just delete it
I assume you have checked for viruses
