My guess is that the system is trying to access a file (icon file) in a
network location, or from another physical hard drive and fails. Perhaps you
can send me the export of this registry key, so that I'll try to replicate
the problem.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
In the meantime, you may use Nir Sofer's excellent "MyUninstaller" utility:
MyUninstaller: Alternative to the standard Windows Add / Remove module:

No, just connected to my WiFi router.
I did 2 system restore, one to this morning 7am status because I thought
that something I did later this morning may have provoked this but it did
not cure the problem so I did another one to 5 days ago but same: didn't
cure. So I am now going to go back to this afternoon's status.

Hi ah,
Yet another problem which remains unresolved for years!
Is your system connected to a network (domain or a workgroup)?

My problem is different from saleroso's. When I open Add Remove programs, I
have the message Please wait until the list is populated and the list is
_never_ populated. I was able to see the list being populated when I
started in safe mode.
I went to Kelly's Korner and downloaded autocaddadremovefix and
autodesklanddesktop3 and tried them but they didn't cure the problem because
my problem is not a blank in add remove programs but the list never gets
populated.
Actually I didn't see my problem listed in Windows XP A to Z.
I hope that someone can help.
