Add remove programs dialog very slow to come up

The Add /Remove programs dialog is very, very slow when run the first time
after a reboot. I have a reasonably defragged disk and a fast Core 2
processor. Any suggestions?

That's sometimes a sign of malware. Do a system check for virus,
trojans and adware.

I'm not OP, but I have the same problem. System thoroughly vetted -- no malware present.
Is there another reason why add/remove would be S*L*O*W to load?
