Add/remove not populates

I have a Dell Xp Professional. Ram 2 Megas. McAfee. Suddenly I cannot see the
programs in control panel; It says" wait .. to ... populate " and nothing
happened in more that 30 minutes. I cleaned Up, scan and repair registry with
adequate software but it did not work. Please help me.
