Hi,
I have a W2K Srv that has gone absolutely mad. I am not sure when this
happened or what has caused it. It is my print server and I had to add
another printer. Opened up the printers folder and found that all the icons
had disappeared (though I can see them in the printer share over the network
and clients can connect and print to the printers via the server no problem,
I even added the printer I needed to over the net). Tried to add a printer
and the wizard closed before it was open. Tried to open up the server
properties from the file menu and it did the same thing. Looked at the KB
to see what I could find out what I could and an article suggested that
there were some third party dll's in the winnt folder. So I did a search
and found only the three that they said to leave alone. So I was stumped.
Looked in Event Viewer to see what it said about print errors and it came up
with nothing but notifications about successful prints. However, I did find
something was wrong about the browser service. Looked it up in the KB and
it said something about the bindings to the NIC. So I looked in Device
Manager and noticed that I had an Other Device and under the Network
Adapters the NIC was listed several times as Device Unknown (I think).
Tried to delete all of the devices and only one of them would uninstall;
even in Safe Mode. So I replaced the NIC using a different PCI slot and it
did the same thing.
Please can someone tell me what the hell has happened to my poor little
\\Herbie!
Thanks.
