Add/Remove Hardware Quint?

With the Windows(Pro 2000 sp4)Add/Remove Hardware manager,
when "show hidden files" checked, many devices are listed
2, 3, even 5 times! Is this at all a problem? Would it be
wise to uninstall all multi-listings and let Win re-
install?

This old (2yr) computer has so many troubles now (going
through USB/scanner hell) that nothing would suprise me.
