I deleted some buttons in outlook but it always switches back to the old
setting. What can I do to eliminate buttons like "categorize" or "follow up"?

Version? How did you delete them?

Thaks Diane. I work with Outlook 2007. And how? I clicked on "toolbar
options", then "add or remove buttons", then standard and then I clicked on
the ones I wanted to go away. They disappeared but as soon as I rebooted,
they were there again.

it sounds like outlook didn't close properly so the changes were saved.
Make the changes, close outlook wait 5 min and verify it is closed in task
manager and restart it. Are they gone? When you turn off the computer, close
outlook first and verify it is closed then shut down or reboot- they should
remain gone.

Thanks again Diane, but it still doesn't work although I did exactly as you
suggested. Maybe it is because I am presentlxy working with the Trial Version
and will get the real Outlook 2007 next week. I will try again then. I

Trial version vs. full retail version have all the same features. Nothing reduced or non-functional only because it is a trial.

Try this - with Outlook closed, find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. Restart Outlook and make your changes again. Close (wait 5 minutes/check task manager for any running instance of outlook.exe) and restart Outlook. Do your changes stick?

Opwn Windows Explorer and in the Address bar, enter
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook, and click Go. I'll bet you see it. The folder
it's in is a hidden folder.
