I'm working currently with the Photo Story 3 Program and wonder if there is a
possibility to add part of a .wmv archive in a photo story album. I have
photos as well as videos made from the same object and would like to add them
to get a composed view between both media alternatives.
I already tried to use the Movie Maker program, but the resulting quality is
very poor, this program simply does not decode the Photo story files
properly, the pan movements get very harsh and the picture quality is beyond
any acceptable quality level, much lower that the Photo Story direct results.
It would be great if there would be any possibility to mix photos and videos
directly ate the Photo story 3 Program.
Thanks for any possible hint

PhotoStory cannot import video.

Importing your pictures and PhotoStory .wmv
files into Movie Maker would be your best bet.

Maybe you would have better results with Movie
Maker if you use a custom profile:

Dear John Inzer,
Thank you very much for your hints.
So sorry that I'm not in the position to get so deep in to the setting of
the Movie Maker. First I use XP and I did not find the "Windows Media" in the
All programs to be accessed through the Start menu... Second although I do
deal with computers since '82 (started with the British Sinclair Spectrum...)
I do not have the skills to make the kind of adjustments that are required to
create a custom profile.
Anyhow this is MY problem, nobody is responsible for me being stupid...
Thank you VERY much for your kind effort to help me, this is a demonstration
of your civic sense of helping someone that is quite distant south of the
Equator...
Sincerely yours
Alexander

You do not have to "create" a custom profile...
there are several you can download from the
article I posted for you.

Try the one called:
SlideShow-1024x768WMV9
(right click / save target as)

Once you download a profile...drop it in the
following folder...

C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\profiles

Now...when you save as follows...you will find
the new profile choice in the list:

Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...
SlideShow-1024x768WMV9 /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

Now you can experiment with other profiles..

Dear John Inzer,

Can you help me? I have photostory3 and I am trying to get it to use
papajohn's profile 720 x 576 for DVD PAL.

I have downloaded the profile and also windows media encoder.

I have put the profile in C:\program files\photostory3\profiles\1033

I opened the profile from 1033 folder in windows encoder, clicked export,
named and saved the file.

It does not however appear in the drop down list in Photostory program. I
went back to 1033 folder and moved a profile out for email 320x 240 in case
there is a max number of profiles allowed in Photostory. Still not worked.

I have successfully done this task before on a previous pc so frustrating
that I cannot do now. I am obviously doing something wrong.

Can you put me right?

Regards

dinah

All you have to do is download the profile and drop it
in the 1033 folder...it should appear in the Profile drop
window as: PapaJohn - DVD profile (PAL) -Test

C:\Program Files\Photo Story 3 for Windows\Profiles\1033

Windows Media Encoder is not used for this purpose.

It just dawned on me that you may be trying to
rename the profile so the size will show in the
PhotoStory drop window.

OK...you installed Windows Media Encoder
and that includes Windows Media Profile Editor...

Now...double left click the profile and it will
open in Profile Editor...in the top field where it
says 'Name' change it to any name you prefer...

Example:
PapaJohn-PS3-DVDProfile-PAL-(720x576)

Go to...Export...on the Export File screen...enter
....File name:

PapaJohn-PS3-DVDProfile-PAL.prx

Save.

Drop it in the 1033 folder.

==============================================

Hello John,

Many thanks for the help. PapaJohn - DVD profile (PAL) Test dropped into
1033 folder as per your instructions works. Seems I have misunderstood the
process and thought it was more complex.

I saw the file DVD profile (PAL) Test but thought "Test" meant it was test
version. I downloaded these:

DVD Profile (PAL) 1280x960
DVD Profile (PAL) 720x576

From this page: http://www.papajohn.org/PS3-Saving.html

For some reason I cannot get either of these profiles to work by just
dropping into the 1033 folder.

I would like to rename to include size but when I follow your later
instructions, I am with you up to Save but when I click Save it returns me to
Windows Encoder/Editor with further option to close/save -where do I "drop it
into the 1033 folder?? was that before Save? should I have clicked open 1033
folder in the screen where I entered filename before Save?

I would settle just to get these two profiles work and skip the renaming if
necessary. My TV suits the 720 x 576 but my brother has a bigger TV and I
want to do also do a family slideshow for him.

I am feeling very stupid but perhaps you will have the patience to help
further.

Regards

Hazel

thanks Dinah,

I revised the DVD Profile (PAL) 720x576 to remove the word 'test' and add
the pixel dimensions to the name.
