Hi Frn,

We have locked down our workstation quite heavily, and also our laptop
users, so much so that they cannot add a local printer What we would like to
be able to do is for the user to be able to add local printers but nothing
else.

Windows Xp, a user that is a member of the local users group and not a
menber of the ADMIN or Power users group can't add local printer. But I have
add users group as a part of the load and unload device drivers local
security setting but even when users tried to add local printer through using
add printer wizard cannot add local printer the option of local printer is
greyed out.

Please help me to short out this problem how could user those are on users
group can add local printer.

Rajeev

Open the "Run" dialog and enter gpedit.msc. Look under "User Configuration"
> "Administrative Templates" > "Control Panel" > "Printers" > "Prevent

Addition of Printers". Should be either "Not configured" or "Disabled".

You have to look through the other policy settings for device drivers and
printer settings there also. The words "Allow" and "Prevent" can be
confusing at first glance.

Dear Mark,
Thanks a lot for your prompt response. But mark I am able to run add printer
wizard. there is no problem to run add printer wizard. My problem is while
adding printer using add printer wzard there are two options one is local
printer and other is network printer. I want to choose local printer but it
seems grayed out so please help me to enable this option.

Thanks
