I have had a problem for over 6 months with the "Add
Hardware" wizard in Windows XP Pro. If I try to install
any new hardware such as printers, scanner, etc. I get
the dialog box stating "Cannot Run Two Device
Installations". I have searched the internet and the
Microsoft web page extensively for a solution to no
available. From this search I can see that many others
are experiencing this problem without a work around!!!

The only partial work around I have found so far has been
to use REGEDIT and manually add device drivers via the
Device Manager which is not an easy solution.
Reinstalling Windows and all my applications is not an
option.

Is there any way to RESET the "Add Hardware" wizard if it
gets into this mode of thinking another harware install
is in progress?

did not mention any flickering in the monitor we can rule
that out.Check all PCI cards to ensure they are seated and
tight and all plug-ins on the back of the computer are
seated. USB and FIREWIRE CONNECTORS do not fit very tight
and could come loose. The connectors to your sound card or
microphone are slip fit. Any attached gaming devices are
suspect. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply.

All cable connections and the internal card seating has been verified
several times. The hardware in question is an HP 6100 xi
printer/fax/scanner/copier. By installing the drivers through the Device
Manager I can print so the connection is working but the "Add Hardware"
wizard still shows some other installation is incomplete but it NEVER does
complete.
