I have two sata raid cntrls (Nvidea and Sil) on my mobo, when I connect a hd
to one, (Nvidea I recollect) the hd is shown in the safely remove device
icon.
Whether this is because this particular cntrl supports the 'sata hot swap/
remove device' feature I dont know.
I ignored it, at the time, I no longer have a hd connected to this cntrlr.

The sata controler is a raid controler, makes no difference as to whether
you use raid or not

Your motherboard most likely supports SATA 2.0 which includes "Hot-Plug"
for SATA hard disks. The safe to remove hardware icon is displayed due to
this feature. Check the Asus support site for more info.
