I have an editable map with outlines of separate countries that can be
selected and filled with different colors. In my presentation, I want to be
able to add fill color one at a time to certain countries as I am speaking
about them. For example, let's say I want to have the U.S. color added
first. Then, say, England, then India. Is there a way to set up an action
setting or any other type of animation for various individual, selectable
parts of the map? So that each time I click on a certain country something
will "happen" (color, flash, etc.) to that country. Keep in mind, I can
already select different portions of the map and color them in manually.
Getting them to be selectable is not the problem. I just want to be able to
automate the action of adding color or other effects as I select them.

Whether you can do this easily or not depends on which version of PPT you
are running. If you are running 2002 or later, you can trigger your
animations.
Add a shape that is the shape of the country and give it the color you want.
Set up an entrance animation for the shape. Right click the animation and
select timing. Towards the bottom of the timing tab, you will see a button
labeled "Trigger". Click it. Select the radio button for "Start on click of
" and then select the shape for the country. Your animation will now happen
when you click the shape. Repeat that process for each country and you will
be good to go.
