I work with Vista and Windows Mail version 6.0. I tried to add an
Hotmail-account but Windows Mail does not allow it. Then I tried to add a
Live-account in which I succeeded, but the e-mail account does not appear as
an account in the program under my regular Inbox. So, I added an account but
it does not work. Any help?

Here is the trick needed, to set up the Hotmail etc account in WM.

Start with a new account setup and use (E-Mail Removed)
Setup the account with the correct server, port and SSL settings, save
it, ignore errors, then go back and enter the correct email address
and (E-Mail Removed) or msn.com or live.com

Try the following settings for Hotmail or Live accounts?


POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example (E-Mail Removed)
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows
Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Mac,

It doesn't work. I did what you told me for an Live-account with a pop3
server (as abc.com), but it doesn't work. And I also tried it for a
Hotmail-account with a http-server, but windows live does not accept http.
The question is of course why let me have the possibility for a http and then
say it is not allowed. But anyway, the result is that I still not have an
additional hotmail or Live account in my Windows Mail program.

I have to tell you that I have 8 live or hotmail accounts set up in WM, and
in OE too.

Provide the error messages that you are getting.

Windows mail uses a single inbox for all accounts, so if you're expecting to
see what you would have in OE or in Windows Live Mail, you won't.

If this is how you are judging whether the process works or not, you're
going to think it failed when it actually worked.

If you want multiple inboxes for separate accounts, use Windows Live Mail
instead.
